ALABAMA EXPRESS / SALUTING TO WIN FILLY
Inglis Premier Sale Lot 430
Purchased for $140,000
“It’s fantastic to secure another Alabama Express for the stable, especially a filly!” - JD Hayes
With plenty of quality and considerable upside, this filly presents great value and a chance to race the progeny of one of Australia’s most exciting young sires, ALABAMA EXPRESS. He continues to impress, sitting in the top five of Second Season Sires for this season, as well as First Season Sires the season prior. From his four stakes winners so far, three are fillies, including the sensational TREASURETHE MOMENT—winner of the Crown Oaks last spring and kicking off her 3YO autumn campaign where she left off with a win in the Gr.2 Angus Armanasco Stakes. She now has six wins from just eight starts and continues to be one of the most exciting horses in Australian racing. Our filly was raised on the same farm at Yulong, who are staying in the horse, such is their belief in her.
At this early stage, we envision this filly reaching the races as a late 2YO and hitting her stride in her 3YO season. As a November foal, she still has maturing and growing to do, but we can already see the makings of a great athlete. With a strong shoulder, neck, and forearm, she already has a beautiful front end. Her hindquarter is also well-developed for her age, and we expect her to keep improving over the coming months. She moves beautifully with a free and flowing walk and presented with an excellent temperament at the sales. We believe she is ticking all the boxes physically, with a lot to look forward to in the next six months.
The pedigree page of this filly has some nice black-type. She is closely related to sire and Gr.2 winner DIRTY WORK. Her page also has the potential for further upgrades with the dam’s 2YO—an unraced colt by Written Tycoon, currently in work with Grahame Begg. While the cross of Alabama Express over a Medaglia d’Oro mare is still untested, we do know that REDOUTE’S CHOICE (sire of Alabama Express) over MEDAGLIA D’ORO mares is a proven nick, currently sitting at 13% stakes-winners to runners, producing Gr.1 1000 Guineas winner FLIT. In fact, the top three horses from this cross are all fillies, including Gr.3 winner POHUTAKAWA, further establishing this as a good fillies line.
This filly is nominated for VOBIS Sires, you can read more about VOBIS here.
