Super Spring Start

The stable kicked off to a super Spring start!

Scoring the quinella in Saturday’s Gr 3 Vain Stakes, the first Melbourne stakes race of the new season, and then completing a winning double at Caulfield to tally 6 winners and two Sydney stakes places for the weekend across three states.

Tony Nicconi, unbeaten in two runs sped home over 1100m to beat stablemate Long Leaf, (already a two-times 2yo stakes winner by Fastnet Rock) in the Vain Stakes. In doing so, the Devitt and Gordon home-bred and owned colt became the 17th stakes winner for his sire Nicconi who stands at Widden Stud.

Earlier on at Caulfield, 5yo mare La Bella Diosa (NZ) by So You Think (NZ), in her first start for three months and second start for Lindsay Park, flashed home to win over 1100 metres, a distance well short of her best.

La Bella Diosa, a Gr 1 winner of the New Zealand 1000 Guineas was formally trained by Mandy and Matt Brown before her transfer to Australia.

While over in Adelaide, 3yo filly Thine Is The Power (Street Boss (USA)), under the ride of Jaime Kah scored over 1050m at Morphettville. At Tatura, Game of Love (NZ) by Darci Brahma (NZ) in the colours of Sir Peter Vela won under the hold of Racha Cuneen over 1600m.

With all eyes on Sydney on Saturday, and two 3 year-old runners for Lindsay Park, both shone to stakes class on their Spring race debuts. Futooh (by Sebring), finished third in the Gr 2 Silver Shadow Stakes for fillies over 1200m and while Smart Elissim (by Smart Missile) ran third in the colts and geldings equivalent race, the Gr 3 Up and Coming Stakes (1300m).

Congratulations to all owners and jockeys and best of luck from here on in for big Spring step ups!
